LUSH LIP GUIDE | SPRING EDITION

LUSH LIP GUIDE | SPRING EDITION

It's here it's here! Spring is finally here! Trade in your burgundies, wines, and browns, and break out your corals, pinks, and lavenders!

It's time for a fresh new look to ring in the new season, and we've got just what you need for sunny days ahead.

PREP YOUR POUT

The first step to gorgeous spring lips is hydration - so drink up! The more water you drink, the more water-rich foods you eat, the more plump, youthful, and radiant your skin will look - including your hair, nails, and lips.

EXFOLIATE & HYDRATE

Once you've got that down, be sure to exfoliate. Scrub away dry and dead skin with a French Girl's luxurious Rose du Maroc Lip Polish or Red Apple Lipstick's Exfoliating Stick to reveal the fresh new skin underneath.

After polishing, apply a balm with an oil base that can lock in moisture and form a protective layer over your lips before applying your choice of color. Try Kani Botanical's Lip Fix in your favorite flavor or R. L. Linden & Co.'s La Balmba Rosa Healing Balm. Use your fingers to press the balm into your skin, a gentle massaging motion that will increase circulation and help with absorption. A balm not only allows color to spread more evenly over top and help the pigment last all day, but seals in moisture that may otherwise wear off as you go about your day.

CHOOSE YOUR COLOR

Now you're ready to apply the color of your choice! This season, hydrated natural lips are in along with bright pops of color. Stay away from opaque nudes, browns, and burgundies, and opt instead for pinks, corals, reds, and even cool-toned blues. In terms of texture, leave behind the matte, and seek out the satin or glossed finishes. Here are a few of our favorite choices!

PERFECT PINK

For a pretty pout, try a traditional pink, either via an ultra-pigmented gloss like Marie Natie's Tickled that is a true petal pink, or a tinted SPF balm like Suntegrity's Lip C.P.R. in Fuchsia Flare

Pro-Tip: For a more modern look, apply Fuchsia Flare straight from the tube and then use your ring finger to blend the color in evenly on your lips, diffusing the edges as you go. This will give the illusion of fuller, bee-stung lips.

COOL CORAL

Coral is a spring favorite - it's a bright hue that just yearns for summer! Try a gorgeous pop of bright coral gloss such as Juice Beauty's Phyto-Pigments Liquid Lip in Drew to bring out your budding tan OR try a deep orange like 100% Pure's Cocoa Butter Matte Lipstick Cactus Bloom for a night out.

RETRO RED

That gorgeous retro French look is back! Try pairing a creamy red lip with fresh, dewy skin and bare eyes and feathery brows. This look is ultra modern and versatile - good for any age and skin tone.

For a traditional creamy red, try MarieNatie Lipstick in Giselle. Ultra-smooth and hyper pigmented, this is a true red with blue undertones good for any skin tone. This is because a blue-red imitates the hue of the blood running under our skin and therefore compliments it beautifully.

A similar blue-toned red with lasting power but not so saturated is 100% Pure's Fruit-Pigmented Cherry Lip and Cheek Stain. A thin wash gives a diluted natural color that lasts all day, a second and third pass creates a lovely deep fuschia-cherry imitating our natural flush.

GORGEOUS GLOSS

If you're a total naturalista, fear not! Bare lips with a bit of shine is totally in too! Pair your gloss with full lashes, groomed brows, and a light highlight on the cheekbones. Take your pick with a gold-toned gloss by Juice Beauty, the Sheer Lip Gloss in Shimmer, or a pink-toned gloss by 100% Pure - the Gemmed Lip Gloss in Crystal. Both add tiny flecks of iridescent shimmer that bring light to your lips.

UNEXPECTED OOMPH!

If you're gearing up for festival season, try a pop of unexpected hue à la the SS17 runway. The key here is color with a bit of a sheen or even shimmer, not a matte formula. Try Axiology's Phenomenon, a pearlescent navy, or Enlighten, a glittery lavender. Go all out with graphic liner or face paint.
